Recruitment tips and tricks
Whether you’ve settled into your dorm and said goodbye to your parents, decided to commute from home, transferred, or you have been at IUPUI for awhile you should consider going Panhellenic! We are quickly approaching recruitment season and some of you may still be unsure of whether to join this experience or not. And that is totally fine. Trust us it can seem like an intimidating process but we are here to give you some insight and the best advice from our sister Mary!
Sorority recruitment is so unique to every school! Parts of the process can be the same, but there are some things that are special to particular campuses. My recruitment experience at IUPUI is one that I will not forget. And since I just joined Alpha Chi last year I definitely know how the women going through recruitment are feeling, but that's why I'm here. In this post I want to give you some tips and tricks for the whole recruitment process.
Going into the first weekend of recruitment I felt two main emotions, anxiety and excitement. It's a weekend full of making new connections which is great but it is a BUSY weekend! Which brings me to my first tip: complete your homework assignments prior to recruitment starting. This is one thing I wish I would’ve done myself. Since recruitment is over two weekends your emotions stay in full force for those two weeks and trust me school will be the last thing on your mind. Another tip I have for the first weekend is to have your outfits planned. Seriously this is a game changer! You don't have to get up as early and don't have to worry about the stress of what to wear on the morning of and it allows you to go into the weekend smoothly. When planning your outfit be sure to keep in mind you will be spending a substantial amount of time in this outfit. Which brings me to tip number three: feel comfortable head to toe! You don't want to be uncomfortable because it can construe your attitude and outlook for the day. For outfit ideas you can head over to IUPUI Panhellenic Pinterest page (https://www.pinterest.com/IUPUIPANHEL/).
Also confidence is key! If you love wearing makeup then wear makeup. If you hate putting the time in for it then go all natural. Seriously just be you! The sororities on campus will connect with you because of YOU. If you decide to wear makeup bring some powder or lipstick to touch up throughout the day. Lastly the thing you should know going into the whole experience is to be yourself! Personally, I am a very outgoing person, so it isn’t hard for me to talk to people. If, however that aspect of recruitment scares you know that every girl in each sorority has gone through the same thing and they are most likely just as nervous as you, so don’t feel alone. I also recommend getting to know the other girls in your recruitment group/room! You are all going through the process together and talking to other girls can really help the two weekends feel more normal after some of these women could end up as your sisters. I would also strongly encourage you to talk to and become comfortable with your Rho Gammas. This was a big thing that helped me personally as I was able to open up and talk to them about literally EVERYTHING. I owe a great deal of my decision to my Rho Gams and all their advice. I hope this helped and gave you some guidance!
Can't wait to meet some of you so soon!! :)
